GST-PST Harmonization February 24, 2009 -- In recent weeks, Ontario Premier McGuinty has publicly indicated that the provincial government may consider combining the federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) with the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) into one harmonized sales tax. The Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA) has indicated its opposition to this proposal and is continuing to monitor this issue. Amended Energy Audit Bill Passed – Not Yet In Effect May 25, 2009 -- Provincial legislation, Bill 150, making home energy audits mandatory for home sellers, unless waived by buyers, has been passed; however, the Bill’s requirements regarding home energy audits are NOT YET IN EFFECT and are not expected to take effect until 2010December 13, 2007 -- The provincial government has announced that it is expanding the PROVINCIAL land transfer tax rebate for first-time buyers
